Another year, another list of the most popular and trending baby names to scour for inspiration.
2021 was a year of ups and downs, with lockdowns giving way to new freedoms as we started to emerge from the pandemic. In happier news, all that time indoors sparked somewhat of a baby boom in 2021 and 2022, and a new generation of beautiful pandemic babies.
With that in mind, the trending baby names and most popular baby names of 2021 have now been revealed by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), who have just released the latest version of the most popular baby names in England and Wales.
Most Popular Baby Names in 2021
If one of the more quirky lockdown baby names growing in popularity isn’t quite going to cut it for your little bundle of joy, we’ve go the lowdown on the most popular monikers – both new and traditional – climbing the rankings.
According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), Noah is in first place for the boys, which has risen 3 places since 2020 and has knocked Oliver into second place after an eight-year reign. Olivia remained the most popular names for girls in England and Wales in 2021 for the sixth year in a row.
However, closely following in second and third place for the girls is Amelia and Isla, quite the contrast to the more traditional boys’ top 10, with George in third – famously chosen by the Prince and Princess of Wales for their first born – and another royal moniker, Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – remaining in the top 10.
