Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon is to become the first ‘Best Actress’ Oscar winner to take to the CBeebies Bedtime Stories seat on Friday 28 January 2022.
Actress and mother-of-three Reese Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for Walk the Line, is set to read Extraordinary, making her the first ever Oscar winner to read the nightly Cbeebies bedtime story.
Extraordinary by Penny Harrison is a story about reaching for the stars and being ‘extraordinary’ – but remembering the ordinary, too, and celebrating the best moments in life: the ones we share with friends and family.
Opening the show, Reese says: “Sometimes, when we’re busy, it can be hard to find time to notice the world around us.
“The things we see every day can seem a bit… ordinary. But if you stop, and look closer, you’ll see that our world is extraordinary!”

During an interview with InStyle magazine in December 2021, the Big Little Lies actress opened up about motherhood and raising her three children – Ava, 22, Deacon, 18 and Tennessee, nine.
“My first, most important priority is my kids. If I told you how much space in my brain they take up every day – do you even think they know? I don’t even think they know,” she said.
As she sends babies and children around the UK off to bed on CBeebies next week, Reese will encourage them to look closely at something the next day that may at first appear ordinary – and then discover something magical.
Reese follows a raft of other famous faces to read the beloved Cbeebies Bedtime Story, including Tom Hardy, Ed Sheeran, Regé-Jean Page, Luke Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Alesha Dixon, Eddie Redmayne, Orlando Bloom, Sir Elton John and Dolly Parton.
CBeebies Bedtime Stories is on each weekday at 6.50pm on the CBeebies channel and is also available on BBC iPlayer. Reese Witherspoon’s CBeebies Bedtime Story will air at 6.50pm, Friday 28 January.
