Recipe of the Month: 3 Simple Fruit & Veg Purees

The weaning thing? Yep, it can be hard sometimes! So, our friends at Piccolo have shared some of their favourite puree recipes to help make it that little bit easier and give you that extra boost of confidence to take the weaning journey by storm.

Berries, Pear & Banana Puree

Makes: 2 portions

Preparation: 5 minutes

Suitable for: From 6 months & suitable for freezing

  • 5 handfuls of strawberries (around 6), de-hulled
  • 1 ripe Williams pear, peeled, cored and chopped
  • ½ a medium banana, peeled
  • 4 raspberries

1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend.

2. Tip: Add yoghurt or milk and a sprinkling of oats or seeds to the blender to make this into a delicious creamy smoothie.

Kale, Kiwi, Peas & Pear With a Hint of Basil Puree

Preparation: 5 minutes

Cooking: 5 minutes

Suitable from: 6 months

  • 1 handful curly kale (approx. 60g) washed, with any thick stems removed
  • 50g frozen peas
  • 1 medium ripe pear, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 medium ripe kiwi
  • 2 basil leaves or ½ tsp dried basil

1. In a steamer steam the kale and peas until soft, around 5 minutes. Once soft, drain and refresh with cold water to keep the vegetables green

2. To prepare the kiwi, cut in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon, add the kiwi and pear to a bowl or blender with the cooked vegetables and add the basil. Blend to the desired consistency.

3. Tip: Add a dollop of coconut or dairy yoghurt to make this extra creamy.

Celeriac and Sweetcorn Puree

Preparation: 5 minutes

Cooking: 5 minutes

Suitable from: 6 months

  • ½ celeriac, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 carrot, peeled and chopped
  • 200g sweetcorn, frozen or tinned
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

1. Put the celeriac, carrot and sweetcorn in a steamer over simmering water for 15 mins or until tender.

2. Once cooked, drain and reserve 3-4 tablespoons of cooking liquid.

3. Blitz all the ingredients to a puree, including half of the reserved cooking water and the olive oil.

4. Add any additional water to thin out the puree
