Today (26 September) is the most popular day for babies to be born in the UK, after parents had a very merry Christmas and Boxing Day.

According to the Office for National Statistics, today (26 September) is the most popular birthday in the UK, as Brits get cosy over Christmas and Boxing Day.

The government data, analysed by thortful.com shows that, on average, 2000 babies are born in the UK on 26 September, a figure higher than any other day of the year.

So if you’re little one’s celebrating a birthday today, it’s likely they were conceived over the Christmas period. And if it’s your birthday, you know exactly what your parents were getting up to on Boxing Day.

It was also revealed that September as a whole is the most popular month to give birth in, proving that many of us really do get carried away with the Christmas festivities. In contrast, the 25 and 26 December are the two days when the least babies are born in the UK, as many parents try to avoid holiday dates for inductions and C sections.

Speaking about the research, Andy Pearce Co-founder and CEO at thortful.com comments, comments “At thortful we celebrate all birthdays, and it’s great to hear the news that thousands of more birthdays will be created by pending parents this upcoming Christmas.”
