Royal Baby name, title and everything you need to know after the Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a baby boy

The Duchess of Cambridge is “doing well” after giving birth to a boy on St. George’s Day. But while the world awaits the name of the third royal baby, here’s everything you need to know…

When was the third royal baby born?

The new addition to the royal family was born at 11:01am on Monday 23 April 2018, weighing in at 8lbs 7oz. The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, the same place that both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were welcomed into the world. Prince George, born on the 22 July 2013, weighed 8lbs 6oz, whereas his sister Charlotte, born 2 May 2015, was a little less at 8lbs 3oz.

When was it announced?

Kensington Palace took to Twitter at lunchtime to say “her Royal Highness and child are both doing well” and both families “are delighted with the news”.
Kate travelled with The Duke of Cambridge by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
In a statement released shortly after 8.20am, Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter that the Duchess travelled to the hospital by car and was in the “early stages of labour”.
She is understood to have been taken to hospital before 6am.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were seen visiting their little brother at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London alongside their father.
Leaving the hospital, Prince William said they are very happy, before holding up three fingers and joking he had “thrice the worry now”.
“We didn’t keep you waiting too long this time,” he added.
When someone asked him whether the couple had decided on a name, he said: “You’ll find out soon enough.”
The couple’s second son was then introduced to the world just seven hours after Kate gave birth.

When was the royal baby due?

There was speculation that the Duchess of Cambridge could give birth to the third royal baby on St. George’s Day after parking restrictions went up outside the exclusive Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, on 9 April.

Kensington Palace confirmed the news that a new royal baby was on the way back in September 2017 and on 17 October 17, Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter that the due date was in April.
Kate’s two previous births were fairly quick and the third birth has seemingly followed suit.
Kate was only in hospital just over 24 hours when she gave birth to her first child, George, on 22 July, 2013.
And for her second child, Charlotte, on 2 May 2015, Kate was in and out of hospital in just 10 hours.

What will Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third baby be called?

Arthur, Albert and Philip are among the current bookies’ favourites for a boy while Mary, Alice and Victoria are rumoured for a girl.
For their first two children, the Duke and Duchess chose traditional options, seen as a tribute to previous members of the royal family.
George Louis Alexander was a nod to six former kings, as well as Lord Louis Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana reflected William’s mother and grandmother.

When will the baby’s name be announced?

Kensington Palace said the name of the baby would be announced in due course while a formal notice of the birth had been posted on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were named fairly quickly and announced two days after they were born. If the third royal baby follows suit, we will be finding out the name of the couple’s second son tomorrow (25 April)…

What will the new royal baby’s title be?

If Kate and Wills’ new addition is a boy, his formal title would be, His Royal Highness Prince (Name) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
If it’s a girl, her formal title would be, Her Royal Highness Princess (Name) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
