Inspire: Julia Restoin Roitfeld

JULIAAAA

This issue we caught up with Romy and the Bunnies founder Julia Restoin Roitfeld. Here’s a sneak peek…

The inspirational mama for our first new look issue had to be somebody extraordinary. So who better than Julia Restoin Roitfeld: fashion royalty, style icon and mama to little girl Romy and the stunning baby site that has us hooked: Romy and the Bunnies.

We’re big fans of your website, Romy and the Bunnies. What inspired you to start it?

After having my baby, I couldn’t find any websites that related to my lifestyle, my tastes, and those of the other mommies around me. Everything felt very dated. I wanted to create a platform for mothers like me, who are hands on with their babies, but who like to take care of themselves. Women who work – and work out – like to look good and like to travel with and without their children. Motherhood shouldn’t signal the end of these things, it should heighten them.

What’s the best thing about being a mother?

The smiles, the laughs and the cuddles are the best, but having someone whose education and wellbeing depends 100% on you can be a lot of pressure – and very scary.

How do you stay balanced in terms of health, fitness and wellbeing?

I try to go to the gym at least three to four times a week. I do SoulCycle and Ballet Beautiful, it’s especially good for the body and the mind.

Who are your inspirations?

My mom, Carine [former editor-in-chief of French Vogue].

How often do you visit London? Where do you stay and what are your must-visits?

I’m there about once a year. Last time it was for a wedding and I stayed just one night at the Connaught with my family. I’m really hoping to come back for Fashion Week.
