New data from Amazon reveals parents’ biggest worry when it comes to travelling

When you’re travelling abroad, with your family, it’s natural to worry. Do we need to hire a car seat? Is Factor 50 the right SPF? And, apparently… have we downloaded enough movies for the kids? Entertaining your kids is a panic-inducing matter for parents, studies show.

Entertaining your kids

This summer is set to be one of the busiest for travel since records began, following a record-breaking 770,000 flights handled in the UK summer 2017. Data released by Amazon Prime Video marked 20thJuly as the biggest day of the year for digital downloads.

In fact, almost half of parents are more worried about entertaining their kids while travelling this summer than: losing luggage, remembering boarding passes or exchanging foreign currency. The only thing that’s more terrifying than forgetting the iPad is leaving behind the passports. A huge 83% of parents will take a tablet on holiday with them for their kids to use.

TV shows and films are typically downloaded a week before the departure day. The most popular shows for UK customers, according to Amazon data, are Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and Pingu. The top films are listed as Beauty and the Beast, The BFG and The Lego Movie. The charts being trumped by children’s shows and movies is confirmation. A top priority of travelling parents this year is entertaining their kids.

“It’s no surprise to us that we’ve become a nation of digital packers. We know our customers value being able to watch their favourite shows when, where and how they want. And we’re happy that Prime Video can offer that choice,” said Jay Marine, VP of Prime Video Europe. “Whether it’s back-to-back episodes of Peppa Pig in the car, or binge-watching the upcoming blockbuster Jack Ryan when the kids have finally gone to sleep, we have thousands of movies and TV shows for families to enjoy this summer.”
