The Four Seasons Hampshire

Ever in search of the perfect getaway, we ventured to the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire for a taste of the ultimate escape.

As soon as you arrive at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire, you know you’re going to be in for a real treat. Rolling up the vast driveway, you’re hit with a view of the spectacular manor house overlooking sprawling acres of the Hampshire countryside. It’s hard not to feel as though you’re in the opening scene of an episode of Downtown Abbey.

Found only an hour outside of London, yet set within 500 acres of countryside, the Four Seasons Hampshire is an idyllic escape for busy city-dwellers in need of some respite. Whether you’re visiting for the day, or booking in for a long weekend of rest and relaxation, the hotel oozes luxury from the get-go.

If you’re traveling en famille, there’s plenty to keep the children occupied while you take in the country air or indulge in some of the spa treatments on offer.

In terms of activities and amenities, you’ll find equestrian facilities with horses and ponies, and instructors on site. There’s also fishing, croquet, tennis, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, cycling and a Highwire Adventure. In the winter months, show off your skating skills on the hotel’s own private ice rink.

The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire

Set within the Estate’s original 18th-century stable block, the luxurious spa houses a 20-metre indoor swimming pool as well as an outdoor vitality pool.

The spa facilities certainly do not disappoint and with their vast menu of tailored treatments, you’ll be feeling refreshed and recharged in no time. We tested out the therapeutic massage offered as part of The Escape retreat (read on to find out more about that).

There are also pre and postnatal treatment options, including a relaxing 60-minute pregnancy massage recommended for after your first trimester. However, make sure you consult your GP and the spa technicians to check which treatments and facilities are suitable during pregnancy.

Visiting with the kids? Worry not, as you can still indulge in some much-needed me-time. Ship the little ones off to Sharkie’s Reef, the recently refurbished family activity pool, while you book into one of the luxurious treatments on offer.

The Wild Carrot Restaurant

After a day of unwinding and exploring the magnificent grounds, settle down for an evening of culinary delights at The Wild Carrot restaurant.

Offering up delicious British classics with a contemporary twist, the restaurant uses only the finest seasonal produce sourced from both local Hampshire markets and foodie hotspots further afield.

The seasonal offerings don’t stop at the food. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks at The Bar,  with a range of classic cocktails and artisanal concoctions, inspired by the Hampshire countryside.

The Escape at Four Seasons Hampshire

four-seasons-hampshire-reviewAdding to the existing menu of amenities and activities, the Four Seasons Hampshire has launched The Escape; a new fitness retreat designed to push boundaries and allow guests to achieve results they never thought possible.

The residential boot camp sees attendees issued with their own personalised Escape kit while also shutting themselves off from their busy lives. Phones and electronic devices are locked away as guests settle in for a weekend of pushing themselves to new limits.

The retreat kicks off with an orientation, exploring the Estate via Landrover, mountain bikes and on foot. The first day concludes with an outdoor meditation session to disconnect from the outside world.

Things kick up a gear on day two. There’s a bright and early wake-up call followed by two intense work out classes. Next up is breakfast and a masterclass in nutrition from a leading nutritionist. This leads on to a tough, military-style boot camp session.

Next up you’ll get a moment’s reprieve with a treatment in the hotel’s spa. To finish up the day, guests are encouraged to reflect and stretch with an evening yoga class. On the final day, theres a Tai Chi session followed by an exhilarating Highwire Adventure and one last indulgent spa treatment.

Talking about The Escape, one of the key creators and instructors, ex-US military soldier, Joshua Blackmer, explains: “The purpose of our boot camp is to push individuals outside of their comfort zones, both mentally and physically.

“When training in the army, I learned that when put in the right environment there are no limits on what you can achieve. With The Escape we will give you a foundation of knowledge concerning health, training and nutrition and something completely outside the normal routine of the gym or studio.”

The Escape runs from Friday 14th June – Sunday 16th June and costs £1,850 (based on single occupancy).
