This team of famous fathers is starring in a new YouTube series of stories to mark Thomas the Tank Engine’s 75th anniversary
McFly’s Harry Judd, Spencer Matthews and Peter Andre have teamed up to unveil a new digital storytelling series to celebrate 75 years of Thomas the Tank Engine.
To launch the new ‘Reading with Friends’ campaign, videos of the three famous dads narrating these classic stories are now available to watch on YouTube, with McFly’s Harry Judd reading the first ever Thomas the Tank Engine story, originally published in 1945.
Peter Andre continues with a more recent tale, Thomas and the Dinosaurs, while Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews finished off the series with a special Happy Birthday story.
“The enduring appeal of Thomas the Tank Engine for me personally is the different colours of the trains, their names, the full faces and characters within the books,” said McFly’s drummer Harry. “I like the fact that they teach good lessons to kids, and they have a global appeal.”
Spencer Matthews added: “It sets a good moral standard for kids. [My son] Theodore is a fan, and we’ve got plenty of Thomas the Tank Engine kits, including a little book with a steering wheel!”
“I’d be very happy for Theodore to take life lessons from Thomas and his friends, because they’re hard working, they’re close and they’re all really likeable.”
Having grown up in Australia, Peter Andre also talked about his fascination with Thomas the Tank Engine as a “posh English, straight character” with a good sense of humour. “I think the appeal is how it captures the imagination, the idea that these very static objects have their own personalities. Plus, it’s really good to watch because it’s a good way to let off steam!”
