The Big Breastfeeding Café will take place on 12th May 2022 and is set to bring together thousands of mums from across the country to honour all things breastfeeding and shout about breastmilk in all its glory.
The national initiative which celebrates breastfeeding and the wonders of breast milk is set to return for its eighth year next month. Run by global breastfeeding brand Medela, this year the campaign is going back to its roots, taking place in homes, village halls and breastfeeding groups across the UK.
Seeing the return of the ‘in person’ element after the uncertainty of the last few years, the café has never been easier to join. Mums can simply get together with a breastfeeding buddy (or two, or ten!) on the day over a cuppa, a slice of cake and good conversation.
Breastmilk (and the mamas making it) is something to be celebrated – full of millions of live cells, antibodies and an ability to constantly adapt to meet baby’s needs. It’s called liquid gold for a reason!
The concept was born four years ago when Medela decided to take its popular social media Breastfeeding Cafe on the road. Inspired by a survey completed by 1,4000 parents, it was found that 50% of mums believed the most helpful breastfeeding advice and support they received came from local breastfeeding support groups.
Along with and family and friends, these ranked significantly higher than all other channels including midwives and GPs, parenting books and websites.
Evolving with the times, the initiative will also retain its virtual activity this year, to ensure even more mums are involved and able to share advice, positivity and build communities of fellow mums.
The live activity will be as vibrant as ever, with engaging live content planned from morning till night on the 12th May, with an abundance of live content running over on Medela’s social media (@medela_uk) alongside the in-person events. From Pilates stretches and real life mum stories to expert advice from globally-recognised breastfeeding researchers, it’s set to be a truly special day for all mums.
Charlotte Price, Medela UK’s Marketing Manager, said, “We are so pleased to see the return of the Big Breastfeeding Café.
“Over its 8 years so far, we know the event has supported thousands of women and really given them a day to celebrate their achievements so far in their breastfeeding/expressing journeys.
“Our main aim is to give all the breastfeeding and expressing mamas (and mamas to be!) a giant high five, so it will certainly be a wonderful national event once again!”
Mums taking part can even get their space looking the part too with Medela’s easy-to-use, downloadable decorations (including everything from bunting and cake toppers to conversation starters to spark the breastfeeding chat!).
To host a café, mums can simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to register their interest and receive full details for the day.
