Baby showers with Carole Middleton

Our columnist Carole Middleton talks baby showers…

“Make this wonderful occasion an afternoon to remember with plenty of personalised details,” she says.

“As you wait the arrival of your little one, a baby shower is a great opportunity to get together with your closest friends and family, share advice and revel in all things miniature! Start by picking a theme or colour scheme, as this will help guide your décor choices.

“Whether you are hosting indoors or outdoors, set the scene with beautiful floral tablecentres. Want to stick with either pink or blue? Some of my favourite pink blooms include lisianthus, ranunculus and roses, while posies of hydrangea, sweetpeas, delphiniums or forget-me-nots work for a blue palette.

“Get your guests involved in some fun games! Ask them to write their own pearls of wisdom or baby name ideas and drop them into a box. Or why not hand out the fabric pens and get them to decorate their own babygrows!

“Keep the nibbles easy by sticking to pre-prepared canapés and finger foods and arranging them buffet-style. Or, for a fun twist on a sweet buffet, how about a retro-themed ‘Ready to Pop!’ popcorn station, complete with toppings.

“Finally, the bubbly may be flowing for your guests – but don’t forget yourself! There are some fabulous non-alcoholic alternatives to champagne at the moment, simply pair with sparkling water or juice.”
