Baby showers with Carole Middleton

Carole Middleton’s guide to make this joyous occasion with friends and family one you’ll never forget

A baby shower is a wonderful way to celebrate the impending arrival of a little one – not to mention a great way to get a group of friends together to share advice and revel in all things miniature!

  • Start by picking a theme or colour scheme. If you don’t want to stick to pink or blue, a mixed palette of ice cream shades will work beautifully in the garden or indoors.
  • Set the scene with bright floral tablecentres. Nothing says, ‘it’s a girl!’ quite like a bouquet of hot pink roses, ranunculus or carnations. For blue blooms, try delphiniums, cornflowers, hydrangeas or sweet peas.
  • A buffet of easy-to-prepare finger foods works best for gatherings like these, or why not serve up a simple brunch? Whatever you choose, don’t forget to finish with sweet treats and cake. Passed down recipes, such as Granny’s famous carrot cake, will add a memorable and personal touch.
  • Finally, get everyone involved with a few games. Ask your guests to write their own pearls of wisdom, or baby name ideas, and drop them into a box. Or why not try a babygrow decorating station, complete with fabric pens and paint?
