Editor-at-large, Kate Freud, rounds up the latest baby news, new parent must-haves and the baby brands you need to know about this month.
With the first month of the new nearly over, what better time to focus on some of the new launches stealing our attention in 2021. From Babybjorn’s adorable animal print baby carriers to Barbour’s exclusive new collaboration designed with your little adventurers in mind, as lockdown persists we’re chomping at the bit to get back to the great outdoors with a round-up of explorer’s essentials in my Baby News column this month.
Animal Magic at Babybjorn
Having used a Babybjorn carrier for all three of my babies, I’m almost tempted to have another child now that I have seen their latest collection of bouncers and carriers, available in wild leopard print. You can choose from the anthracite leopard or the beige leopard in the Baby Carrier Mini for newborns and up, the Baby Carrier One, which you can use for front or back carrying positions, and the Bouncer Bliss, a must have bouncer that gently moves with the baby’s own movement from when they are wee, a godsend that allows you to put them down for a minute and make a cup of tea!
Leo Baby Bouncer and Baby Carriers, prices from £80 at Babybjorn.
Into the Wild with Barbour & John Lewis
There’s a very seasonal chill in the air at the moment so what better time to invest in a piece from the new Barbour & John Lewis & Partners ‘Wilderness Collection’ designed by adventurer Ben Fogle and his wife (and Baby contributer), Marina. The range features a collection for men, women and mini-me’s, all beautifully modelled by Ben, Marina and their gorgeous children Ludo and Iona. Inspired by the family’s passion for the outdoors and adventure, the collection includes classically constructed outerwear, clothing and accessories influenced by Barbour’s extensive archives but updated with modern and technical touches – we can’t get enough of the khaki puffa with sheepskin collar for the girls, the cool tees and the navy hooded wax jacket for the boys. Bring on the fun times.
Available exclusively from John Lewis.

Kate Freud’s Baby News Column – Party Season Picks
Trotters in Harrods
Childrenswear brand Trotters has a new concession in Harrods. Launched to coincide with the brand’s 30th birthday celebrations, the store, situated on the fourth floor showcases some of Trotter’s best-loved styles, with the prettiest frocks for girls, super smart knits and trews for the boys, and adorable babygros for the littlest member of your family.
Once you have discovered the beautiful products available from the Danish brand Liewood, you’ll find them hard to resist. From the coolest bamboo tableware to the softest organic textiles, cute shoes to good-looking toys (no hideous plastic in sight!) and bed linen to boot, this brand is all about sustainability and ‘slow living’ – creating products that will last for generations. And with Christmas here in a matter of days, you’ll find plenty of stocking fillers and gifts for family here.
Give a Little Back
Since the onset of COVID earlier this year, poverty across the country has increased, and many children are living without the essentials they need, with many going hungry which is unbearable to think about. So, I love the new collaboration between the gorgeous brand Auree Jewellery and the London-based charity Little Village, a baby bank which provides clothes, toys and equipment for children from newborns up to the age of five. 100% of the profits from these Rowfant Rainbow Charity Hoop Earrings, are donated to the charity, with the Rainbow design symbolising hope and solidarity.
Most famous for their invaluable cotton muslins (ask any new mother), Aden & Anais have just launched their first washable playmat. Featuring favourite characters from the popular jungle jam collection, the large mat is designed with plenty of developmental benefits to support baby’s fine and gross motor, sensory and cognitive development. From self-discovery with the sun mirror to sensory development with the crinkle peek-a-boo leaves, this will keep your babe happy for hours.
Kate Freud’s Baby News Column – October 2020
As we draw a close on Organic September – a month focusing on sustainability and the organic movement – for this edition of my Baby News column, I thought it apt to shine a spotlight on the brands with sustainability at the forefront. Not only is Newbie’s new collection made from 100% sustainable organic cotton, but it’s also inspired by nature’s colour scheme, with autumn hues galore. The enchanting Wild Wood range features beautifully hand-drawn woodland creatures designed by the Newbie team in Sweden with a squirrel, owl and flower prints making this collection just perfect for the season.
Boden gives back
Fashion brand Boden has teamed up with the brilliant charity Baby Basics, to support vulnerable families with baby and children’s clothing donations. From this month, Boden will be encouraging customers to make donations of ‘pre-loved’ baby and children’s clothes from 0 – 6 years to Baby Basics by providing pre-paid postage labels to all Mini Boden customers. And with the current COVID situation, this charity’s work has never been more crucial.
Snug to stroll
With autumn just around the corner, what better time to invest in one of Tiba + Marl’s natty new handmuffs for your stroller. The seriously chic accessories come in three colourways, including their signature camo and mono leopard prints with bespoke hardware. The water-resistant nylon fabric and super soft fleece lining mean your mitts will stay dry and toasty too.
If, like most mums, you’re short of time then don’t fret, as the newly launched brand Mia & Ben produce organic baby food that’s as good as homemade. They use the freshest, organic ingredients, to create purees with all the taste, texture, flavour and goodness of home cooked food. Little ones will love the Banana, Mango and Pineapple and Sweet Potato, Pear, Butternut Squash and Beetroot varieties and older kids will love their delicious smoothies.
