To celebrate 20 years of Amazon in the UK, Amazon has revealed the most loved toys, games and tech of the past two decades
Can you even imagine life without Amazon? A life without being able to order something of an evening and have it arrive at your door the very next day. Heaven knows it’s a godsend when you’ve got children.
So, to celebrate 20 years in the UK, researchers at the online retailer questioned 2,000 Brits to uncover the most loved books, films, albums and toys of the past two decades.
Ed Sheeran’s X was voted the most popular album, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came top of favourite films, and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown was voted the best book.
The research also looked at top fashion trends of the past 20 years, with skinny jeans, jeggings and onesies coming in at first, second and third place.
Unsurprisingly, the smartphone was voted the most influential piece of tech, followed by Wi-Fi, broadband and social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Film and TV streaming services such as Prime Video, banking apps and tablets also made the top 10.
And as for toys, the Tamagotchi digital pet became a national obsession when it hit the UK in 1998, taking the top spot of most influential toys. Pokémon came second in the list (24%), followed by Furby (22%) and Monopoly Millionaire (17%).
According to the data, shopping online saves us four hours and 42 minutes every week, as well as a £368 saving for your wallet, too. Here’s to the next 20 years, Amazon!
